Åtvidaberg has suffered from various illnesses recently and therefore stopped all his training for a week. When training was recently resumed, more players began to develop symptoms of Covid-19.

The local newspaper Corren states that five Åtvid players are currently ill and that seven have recently returned to full training after illness. In addition, he has several injuries.

“It should be canceled”

Despite this, Thursday night’s qualifying game will be played against Västra Frölunda, where promotion to Division 1 is at stake.

– We don’t want to play. Absolutely not. Based on the health risk and the risk of infection, we don’t want that. We and Frölunda agree that this qualifier should be canceled and both teams should have been promoted, Åtvid coach Jesper Ny says to SVT.

The club has appealed to the union, which later refused.

Not all are tested

Åtvidaberg has not been able to test every player on the team, but at least three must have shown antibodies to covid-19.

– We can play with eleven players on the field. We only line up with healthy players on the field, everything else would be horrible on our part.

Tonight’s match is the first of two, as the classification is decided by a double match. The return match will be played on Sunday.
