Sparta Prague came to visit an empty San Siro, hoping to shake up a strong Milan in the Europa League.
Before the match, the Italian club had played 22 matches in a row without losing and now the suite was expanded as the Czechs fought back.
With 24 minutes played, Zlatan Ibrahimovic served his teammate Brahim Díaz, who deflected a defender and made it 1-0.
Just before half-time, “Ibra” fell into the penalty area, received a penalty, but missed when he got too much foot under the ball and splashed the crossbar.
First in 16 years
According to figures from the statistics agency Gracenote, it was the first time since the 2004 European Championship, against the Netherlands, that Zlatan missed a goal from the penalty spot.
However, he has hit 87 of 103 penalties in competitive games, making it 84 percent. An average penalty taker is 75 percent.
By comparison, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi scores 78 percent of his penalties and Cristiano Ronaldo, today at Juventus, 83 percent.
Milan poured over
At half-time, Ibrahimovic was substituted and after a quarter, substitute Rafael Leao pushed it 2-0 from close range after Diogo Dalot’s performance.
Ten minutes later, Dalot saw his shot with his left foot directed inwards and thus the final score was determined 3-0.
– We had already planned for Zlatan to be replaced. We have a very tough match on Sunday, says coach Stefano Pioli to Sky Sport Italia.
On Sunday, Milan will face Udinese at home, with the aim of consolidating the league leadership in Italy.
