“As if a giant met a little boy”

Croatia’s NK Lokomotiva did not play Malmö in the Europa League third qualifying round. MFF won 5-0 after double goals from Isaac Kiese Thelin initially. Then Adi Nalic, Eric Larsson and Sören Rieks each scored a goal. Lokomotiva coach Goran Tomic resigned at the press conference.

– Congratulations to Malmö, I think they are a very strong team. We cannot compete with them because the quality difference is enormous. The gain was well deserved, says Tomic.

What made them difficult for your team?
– As I said, we are not the same team as last season, the difference is really big. MFF is much, much stronger in terms of technology, speed, everything. I also think Dinamo Zagreb would have had big problems against Malmö if they had played here.

Are you disappointed with the effort?
– This is our reality. Of course, everyone wants the best possible. But today it was as if a giant met a little boy. It was a very easy game for them.

Malmö FF is one match away from advancing to the main tournament of the Europa League. Next Thursday they will face Granada at home in a playoff game. Granada finished seventh in the Spanish League last season and tonight beat Lokomotive Tbilisi at home 2-0. Goran Tomic still believes in MFP.

– I’m sure they keep going. As I said, if Dinamo had met Malmö, they would have had great difficulties. It will also be hard for Granada.
