Apotea received harsh criticism for the poor work environment after a revelation at Dagens ETC. Several employees felt stressed, monitored and testified about the lack of leadership and sexual harassment in the workplace in Morgongåva. So the pharmaceutical giant initially gave up, but now it seems they have changed their minds.
It is unfortunate that past or current employees have experienced shortcomings with us and we work hard to strengthen the working environment in the warehouse. Everyone should feel that we are a good, safe and professional employer who takes responsibility for the health of our employees, Apotea CEO Pär Svärdson said in a statement.
Apotea currently has 900 employees and believes that the enormous growth rate has been a partial cause of the work environment problems.
We had to recruit 200 people in two weeks in April to fulfill our socially critical mission of delivering drugs to people across the country. It is not an optimal growth rate and while it is fun to be able to hire people, I am the first to admit that we have fallen behind administratively and, sadly, there have been incidents where we have broken leadership, says Pär Svärdson.
Ultimately it is my responsibility and now we are working under high pressure to come back and strengthen both leadership and to make sure we have the correct routines to have safe working conditions in our warehouses, he continues.
The company will now carry out an employee survey and, together with Unionen unions, Swedish pharmacists and a work environment consultant, will ensure a safe and secure work environment.
Sarah Ahnström, Vice President of Apotea, will take over the management of the working environment at the Morgongåva warehouse. The company also announces that it has hired senior managers for the day and night shifts and in two weeks there will be a senior weekend manager on site.
I believe that dialogue with unions and employees is very important and together we must ensure that the workplace is even better. I want to emphasize that surveillance, punishment and sexual harassment are completely unacceptable and we have routines to act on if something happens, for example a whistle-blowing function, says Pär Svärdson.
