The alarm went off at 17.04 and the rescue service sent seven units to the scene.
– There is a fire in the basement of an apartment building. We entered with smoke divers, said Åsa Opperud, the Greater Gothenburg rescue service.
There was smoke in the stairwell, but the residents of the house shouldn’t have had to evacuate. No one is said to have been injured in connection with the fire.
– There should be no danger to residents. We are venting the smoke in the stairwell and the fire is under control, Opperud said.
Suspicion of arson
At 6:20 p.m., the rescue service was still in place, but at the same time, the operation was about to wind down.
