GÄVLE. Anton Rödin dropped to Skellefteå in the last minute.
And together with goalkeeper Samuel Ersson he saved his Brynäs from penalty practice on Sunday:
– He doesn’t give a damn if there is training tomorrow if we lose, says coach Peter Andersson at the press conference.
Skellefteå dominated the match, leading shots at 29-9 after 40 minutes, but Brynäs kept the goal. It was 2-2 and it was for a long time goalkeeper Samuel Ersson who saved the home team. With four minutes to go in the third period, the guests had a golden opportunity to decide when Brynäs had two players sent off in 20 seconds.
But Brynäs solved it and with a minute to go, team captain Anton Rödin was able to decide.
A goal that meant more than one victory and three points. Among other things, Brynäs players get a free Sunday. Something that was also planned but that Peter Andersson had brutally changed if there was a defeat.
Because Andersson was anything but happy with the performance of his team in the first two periods:
– The first two periods are not the ice hockey that we want to represent or represent. A face that we have to erase immediately is not approved. We have a lot of cruel, cruel and cruel things to work on, he says.
A job that he had planned to start as early as Sunday, if there was a loss.
Players were unaware of the threat.
When asked during the press conference what it means that Brynäs managed to save the long three-on-five situation and then decide, the answer came:
– Right now means we didn’t have to train tomorrow morning. We took the training time they gave us.
– We should have been free, but sometimes you may need to do something else.
Did you go and think about it in the booth during the game?
– It happened, yes, says Andersson.
So the practice-free Sunday would have been a memory only for Brynäs if Rödin hadn’t made up his mind now.
Rödin himself did not know what his coach was preparing at the stand:
– No, I didn’t know, but we deserved it. He didn’t look good for 40 minutes, third is good. We can just watch the video and fix it.
