Antibodies become more and more specialized after 6 months – Vetenskapsradion Nyheter

A research group at Rockefeller University in New York, USA, he examined 87 patients’ antibodies and so-called B cells, which produce antibodies in case we become re-infected.

They were first reviewed 1 month after illness and then just over 6 months. Then it was discovered that the antibodies decreased over time, but at the same time they became more specialized and it was also observed that B cells, which produce new antibodies if we are re-infected, increase over time.

And that can mean that we have a good defense against the new disease after 6 months, but in addition, the researchers speculate, these more specialized antibodies can protect us even if the virus mutates.

The study has not been reviewed or published, but it is incredibly interesting, says Marcus Buggert, an immunity researcher at Karolinska Institutet.

This is really one of the main groups in the world in the field. Then they believe that there is a belief that the antibodies remain over time, they are more specialized to perhaps kill the virus. And it may even be capable of binding to various mutations that could occur on the surface of the virus.
