Another strong earthquake shakes Croatia

The Croatian capital, Zagreb, has been rocked by a 6.4 magnitude earthquake, according to the German geo-institute GFZ.

The quake had its epicenter just over a mile underground in the town of Petrinja, about 50 miles outside the capital. Petrinja’s video recordings show people rescued from landslides and houses where roofs collapsed.

There is currently no information on whether anyone was injured or killed in the earthquake.

The earthquake was also felt in several of the neighboring countries. As a precautionary measure, neighboring Slovenia closed its Krsko nuclear power plant for the day.

The earthquake occurred just one day after central parts of Croatia were hit by a slightly smaller earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2.

Croatia’s location along the so-called Adriatic plate, a microcontinental plate, makes the nation vulnerable to earthquakes.

In March, Zagreb was rocked by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3, then one of the strongest earthquakes to hit the sea nation in decades. During that earthquake, many buildings were damaged so badly that the spire of the city’s famous cathedral broke.
