Annie Lööf breaks the silence on Federley: “Very serious”

The Center Party’s second vice president and EU MP Fredrick Federley has until recently had a relationship with a man who had previously been convicted of several serious crimes. Federley himself announced it in a Facebook post last week, where he also said that he was leaving politics indefinitely due to mental illness.

The man was sentenced in 2014 to a long prison term for, among other things, several aggravated violations against children.

“The crimes he has committed are frankly terrible, unspeakable and completely unforgivable. We have now gone our separate ways, “Federley wrote in the Facebook post.

“Sad and tragic”

Now, the leader of the Center, Annie Lööf, comments on the relationship of the party comrade with the condemned man.

– It is very sad and tragic, especially for Fredrick Federley personally. He is now seriously ill and will be on sick leave for some time. We have spoken with him and we take this information very seriously, says Annie Lööf.

– We will talk more with him when such opportunities arise.

The center leader says she learned of the crimes on Nov. 23, three days before Federley’s Facebook post. But according to Annie Lööf, Federley must have known about the man’s background “for a long time.”

– This is how he has expressed himself with us, she says.

“Stay between us”

The information that has emerged has damaged trust in Fredrick Federley, believes Annie Lööf. But at the moment he does not want to comment on whether Federley may continue to be active in the Center Party.

– Confidence in Fredrick Federley is affected by having knowledge of this information about the serious crime committed by the relative. But exactly how and what conversations we have had between us.
