18 months after the disappearance of billionaire wife Anne-Elisabeth Hagen, Norwegian police broke into Tom Hagen’s home one morning. He was arrested on suspicion of murdering his wife and is now in custody.
Together, the couple has three adult sons, two daughters, and a son. Everyone is absolutely convinced that his father is innocent of the crime he is suspected of. This is what their joint lawyer Ståle Kihle says in an interview with VG magazine. He says all three think the same thing: Dad is innocent.
Kihle says the days since the father’s arrest have been difficult for the children.
– They have been in an extreme situation for the past 1.5 years after their mother disappeared. And two days ago, the extremely difficult situation, which you didn’t think could get worse, suddenly much, much worse, says to VG and continues:
– Now his father, under quite violent circumstances in proportion to what is necessary, is arrested and suspected of the murder of his mother. They are children, but they are also parents and have families to take care of. I think everyone can imagine that it is very difficult.
Suspected of being kidnapped
The case of the disappearance of Anne-Elisabeth Hagen is one of the most notable in Norwegian criminal history.
Previously, Hagen’s attorney stated that he had contact with hijackers who wanted a large cryptocurrency ransom to be paid.
However, when the police arrested Tom Hagen, they announced that they were now on a new lead: that Tom Hagen had fabricated the kidnapping and actually murdered his wife.
New information claims that the police, through a technical investigation, have been able to link Tom Hagen’s DNA to the course of events surrounding his wife’s disappearance.
At the same time, people close to the family have testified that the couple had a troubled marriage, according to VG, who also has information that Anne-Elisabeth wanted to divorce from power. However, this information has not been confirmed by the police.
Two Norwegian divorce attorneys, Randi Birgitte Bull and Mette Yvonne Larsen, have found, after noting the couple’s preface to marriage, that it is “uneven” in Tom Hagen’s favor.
