Today some traffic between the UK and France resumes after Paris agreed to ease its travel ban. The irritation is great among the hundreds of stranded truckers who have not yet been released.

Anger flared Wednesday morning when some drivers collided with police on the streets of the British port city of Dover.

Several European countries stopped traveling to and from the UK this weekend after a new infectious mutation of the coronavirus was discovered in the country.

But after criticism from the European Commission, France agreed to reopen the border for certain traffic. This means, among other things, that truck drivers who test negative for COVID-19 can board the ferries that cross the canal to French Calais.

“The situation is inhuman”

A large proportion of British food imports go through the route.

The British Army is deployed to help with the tests, but it will probably be a while before all the stranded drivers are grazed. And patience is wearing thin as many begin to realize they won’t be able to get home in time to celebrate Christmas with their families.

During the night until Wednesday, hundreds of truckers let their guardians protest.

– We have no food, nothing to drink, says one of them.

– The situation is inhumane, we demand a solution.

Norway extends flight ban

Many of the drivers have delivered goods to companies that took the opportunity to replenish their stocks before new customs checks are introduced in January due to Brexit.

Sweden is one of the countries that has decided to ban entry from the UK. In addition, there are stopovers for flights from the country until 4 in the afternoon today.

Norway announced Wednesday that the country will extend its stopover for flights from the United Kingdom for another three days.
