Andreas Kramer broke the Swedish record in the 800 meters

The previous record was set by Kramer himself in 2018 when he ran the 1.45.03. He has been within hundredths of a distance in various competitions this summer, now he is 56 hundredths behind.

All day before the gala in Checo Ostrava he felt like he would run fast, he says by phone.

– I’ve been waiting for it for a while. To stay behind with only one or two hundredths I would not have liked so much. But to hit him hard enough, it means a lot more.

He finished second in the race, time makes it the sixth world this year.

– I have set a level that no one else has had in Sweden, but now I have dropped to a level that is even stronger in the world. This time it can also be very good in championships, says Andreas Kramer.

It was a large, high-quality starting field in Ostrava, with two riders who were in the final of the World Cup last year. The Swede took the lead in the race, but was overtaken by Britain’s Jake Wightman, who won in 1.44.18.

– It is clear that it is difficult to be beaten, but to be second in a race like this I also value a lot, not only the record.

Coach Per Skoog says that time may give invitations to finery next year, when Kramer will be even better.

“He’s a pretty perfect age for the Olympics next year, for us maybe it was just an advantage that he was postponed,” says Skoog.

During the night, Daniel Ståhl won on puck at 66:42, ahead of Simon Petterson. Hanna Hermansson was seventh in the 1,500 meters with her personal best 4.07.07. Meraf Bahta was 10th in the 5,000 meters at 15.27.54.

Norwegian Karsten Warholm made a world record attempt in the 400m hurdles, but failed.
