Many people wonder when the pandemic is over and life can return to normal.
According to state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell, it will take some time.
– It definitely won’t be this year, he tells DN.
Since March 11 of this year, the World Health Organization (WHO) has referred to the ongoing corona outbreak as a pandemic, signifying a contagious disease that is spreading globally.
In an interview with Dagens Nyheter, state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell says the question is not when the pandemic ended, but when the WHO assesses that the international emergency ended.
– It is not about x number of cases, but rather they make a global assessment, he tells DN.

At least in one year
Furthermore, Tegnell says it is impossible to know when it may become relevant, but at the earliest within a year.
He believes that the number of new cases must first be adequately reduced and the pressure on medical care around the world relieved.
– Definitely not this year. If next year is a quiet summer and you go into fall with no major breakouts, then maybe WHO feels so confident that they can put this aside.
Giesecke: Only at the beginning
Former state epidemiologist Johan Giesecke, who is an adviser to the WHO, also says it will be some time before the WHO removes the international emergency.
– It takes a long time, I think years. I can’t say how many, but it doesn’t make sense to count in months. We are only at the beginning of the pandemic, he tells DN.
