After only one season at Frölunda, Viktor Stråhle announced in mid-April that he would be leaving his position as assistant coach at the club. At the same time, GT could say the 30-year-old is ready for Brynäs next season, where he will become assistant coach to new head coach Peter Andersson.
On Monday GT was able to say that Anders Burström was an ideal candidate for the job as Roger Rönnberg’s new assistant coach in Frölunda.
“He is a potential candidate,” Frölunda sports director Fredrik Sjöström said of the information.
At lunch Frölunda confirmed the news.
– We have received many applications and have spoken with many interesting candidates. When we met Anders, he clicked. He is precise, impulsive and has been in a SHL cabin before. He knows Roger (Rönnberg) and Kristofer (Näslund) before and likes to work in teams, says Sjöström on the club’s website.
Anders Burström was the team captain under the leadership of Roger Rönnberg in Luleå. When Rönnberg and Roger Kyrö took over the team, Burström was named captain.
“They know each other well”
Now it will be Luleå’s triple at the Frölunda stand next season.
Also assistant coach Kristofer Näslund, who last week signed a new long contract with the club, has a past precisely in Luleå.
– That’s a great reason why I ended up in Frölunda. We know each other well and that’s an advantage, says Anders Burström.
The contract with Frölunda runs through the spring of 2023 and now the 44-year-old is moving 120 kilometers south.
– It will be a change, but me and the family like adventure and the work is very inspiring, he says, and says what he contributes to Frölunda’s activities:
– First of all, a lot of experience. I understand elite hockey after many years as an elite player and coach. And for me, it is important to see and understand man. The mental is important to achieve the maximum potential of each player.
Offered the job in Modo
Anders Burström was offered the job as an assistant coach at Björklöven last season. He then refused no for family reasons: he did not want to take the family to Umeå. The choice in Björklöven then fell to Robert Kimby.
In addition to Frölunda, he also had the job of head coach in Modo to take a position, according to Örnsköldsviks Allehanda.
Anders Burström has not coached any senior teams since 2017 when he was assistant coach to Petter Lasu Nilsson in Luleå.
