Amazon has lobbied for low prices to be one of the biggest keys to the hearts of Swedish consumers. And now that Amazon.se is launched, we can finally compare how they stand up to the competition here at home. Pricerunner has done that price comparison. They have compared 330 products in a large number of categories and it seems that at the moment it is 8% more expensive to buy only on Amazon.se, compared to the lower prices of Swedish electronic retailers.
And it looks like the price pressure may get even more sweaty in the future, when Swedish e-retailers react to the competition.
Of course, you can find good deals on Amazon, but for four out of ten products you can find lower prices in other stores. And this is the first day, we expect that many Swedish electronic retailers will adjust their prices in the future, says Nicklas Storåkers, CEO of PriceRunner, in a comment.
In some cases, the prices are even several hundred percent more expensive on Amazon.se. For example, the Destiny 2 video game for Playstation 4 can be purchased for 29 SEK as the cheapest online, but on Amazon it sells for 80 SEK. CeraVe SA Smoothing Cleanser 236ml is also taken as an example. It costs up to SEK 365 on Amazon, which is almost 250 percent higher than the lowest price online.
As usual, it is important to compare prices online before buying, Amazon is no exception. Right now, it is possible to find good deals on toys and headphones on Amazon, while the site is generally much more expensive in terms of, for example, mobile phones and skincare, says Nicklas Storåkers.
