Amanda Holmberg started the second day of Finnkampen.
On his birthday, 22 years old, he broke his personal record by almost a second and a half when he won the introductory leg 400 hurdles in time 56.98.
– I’m in shock, he tells Svt.
Amanda had a recent personal record of 58.42 since August 23 when she arrived in Finnkampen.
She wasn’t even the favorite to win the race.
But in the race he got away from everything and everyone and when he saw the clock after the finish he covered his face and did not think it was true.
– I was hoping for a personal record and that it could possibly drop below 58.00. But this? I do not know what to say. But I’m in good shape, they were fast tracks and I didn’t die in the riots today.
Amanda was only three hundredths away from settling into the Swedish top ten of all time.
A list headed by Ann-Louise Skoglund with her world time of 54.15.
New pers on the men’s side
Sweden needed a good start on the women’s side after the message from national team captain Karin Torneklint that she will not get a full squad at 5000 meters.
Linn Söderholm has been forced to attack and the captain of the national team, Karin Torneklint, has no replacement.
– No, it’s sad, but there’s nothing else to do, he tells Svt.
Minutes after Amanda Holmberg’s super race, 20-year-old Carl Bergström won the men’s 400 hurdles with 49.69, a new career high with more than half a second.
It ranks seventh in Sweden through the centuries.
– Unbelievably nice that it’s released now. I put everything in it today and it’s worth it, he says.
He also took revenge on the 17-year-old Oskar Edlund, who beat him at the Swedish Championship in Uppsala with the Swedish junior record 50.15. Now Oskar finished fourth with 51.08.
400 Hurdles is an old offshoot of the Swedish parade, which yielded many Swedish championship medals in the 1980s and 1990s.
It seems time for a rebirth.
