New message from the Stockholm region: All Stockholm residents will be offered a vaccine by the end of the first half of the year.

At the same time, a study shows that immunity to covid-19 in Stockholm is increasing.

This week, the Stockholm Region announced that it would not be able to offer a vaccine to all Stockholm residents in mid-summer. Now the region promises to meet the vaccination target during the first half of the year, writes DN.

– If we only receive the deliveries, we will achieve the goal of vaccinating all the inhabitants of Stockholm by June 30, says Finance Minister Iréne Svenonius (M) to the newspaper.

Under a new plan, mass vaccination will begin in mid-April, and the region hopes to be able to vaccinate 250,000 people a week.

More with antibodies

But first, a large chunk of the 655,000 doses planned for April must be approved by the EU agency EMA.

The vaccinations will be carried out mainly in the county health centers, as well as in Karolinska in Huddinge and Solna. Private actors such as vaccination clinics and pharmacies are also included.

It is not yet clear from what date the public can begin reserving vaccines. The region expects phase 2, for all those 65 and older, not to begin until mid-March.

In parallel, a new study from the Karolinska Institutet shows that more and more Stockholmers have antibodies, reports SR Ekot.

Does not affect speed

In December, 15 percent of Stockholmers had antibodies, which is double compared to the beginning of summer, when the figure was 7 percent.

The proportion may have now risen to 20 percent, assesses one of the researchers behind the study, Gunilla Karlsson Hedestam, who is a professor of vaccine immunology at KI.

However, this does not affect the speed of spread of the infection.

– It is still at least 80 percent that the virus has as a potential host, he tells the radio.

The new study, which has yet to be published, analyzes blood samples from blood donors and pregnant women in Stockholm from March to December.
