All minks in Denmark must be killed

At this time, corona infection has been found in 207 Danish mink farms. 67 of them have already been forced to kill all their animals. Another 23 mink farms are suspected of being infected.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Politiken newspaper revealed that the mink infection can be transmitted to humans in such a mutated way that it may pose a threat to future vaccines.

According to the newspaper, ten people in North Jutland have already been infected by mink.

“Very serious”

In them, the virus has changed so much that it is considered a threat to future efforts against it.

– It’s very serious, says Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, S, at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.

– The risk is that a future vaccine will not work properly. The effect can weaken or, in the worst case, disappear. It can spread and have serious consequences around the world.

It stresses that the situation is now “extremely serious”.

Therefore all the minks in Denmark must die. It’s a fatal blow to the industry: Denmark is the world’s largest mink producer.

Even stricter restrictions

At the same time, more stringent restrictions are being introduced in municipalities where mutated viruses have been found.

– There will be more far-reaching restrictions, says Mette Frederiksen.

– I’m sorry, but the situation now is extremely serious.

In North Jutland, 783 people were found to be infected with corona last week. Half of them are said to have had contact with mink.

Residents of affected municipalities are urged to take great care to comply with all current restrictions.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has been informed about the new development in Denmark.
