All Gotland without electricity

There is currently a power outage across Gotland. It should have started at 2.20pm on Friday.

According to Gotland’s Energy (Geab), the entire connection to the mainland has been broken.

– The connection between Gotland and the mainland was disconnected. We have technicians on site who troubleshoot to find the cause and correct the error. In parallel, we use the reserve power available in Gotland and with the help of it we try to return power to all customers, says Kalle Blomberg, Geab’s power grid manager.

Geab claims this is Gotland’s third total breakout this year. Geab’s outage map says “All Gotland without power.” 60,000 people live on the island.

– I have not received any information yet as to why this is due, but we have only received that it is a total breakdown, which means that all of Gotland is isolated, says Patrick Ryott, official on hold in the Gotland Region.

Depending on the region, this has happened with increasing frequency since 2018, when work was done on terminal equipment on the cable that runs between the mainland and Gotland.

– We really don’t have the robustness we are looking for here, there have been great discussions about this third power cord that we are so in need of, and since we don’t have one, this will probably happen in the future as well, says Patrick. Ryoff.

It says that there is no activity that is critical at the moment but that the power reserve is sufficient for a couple of hours. The first forecast is that the energy will return in an hour or two.
