SURE: During Deadline Day, rumors abounded that Liverpool were looking for a new goalkeeper. Now it is clear that the club signs a contract with the promising 17-year-old goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga, from Fluminense in the Brazilian top flight.

Liverpool confirm the signing on their website and also assure that the current first goalkeeper of the team, Alisson Becker, had a role in the signing of Pitaluga. Muriel, Becker’s older brother, guards the goal in Fluminense and had a good view of Pitaluga.

– I asked “Ali” to talk to his brother about how he (Pitaluga) performs. “Ali” talked to his brother and went there and trained. We looked at that training a bit and the games he played for the Brazilian reserve team, Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg explains on the club’s website.

Pitaluga defended goal for the Brazilian U-17 team that won gold at the World Cup last year, despite being a year younger than the rest of the players. The 17-year-old is already in place and is training with Liverpool’s A-team, but is initially expected to play for the club’s youth team.
