Alireza Shojaei, 19, came to Sweden a loner.

Last Thursday, he was shot and killed outside a hamburger restaurant in Boden.

– Every time I think of him, I prepare to cry, says foster father Jawad Mohammedi.

It’s been just over a week since the fatal shooting outside Max’s Burger joint in Boden.

When the news reached Jawad Mohammedi, 35, he shared an article on Facebook about the incident in his hometown.

At that time he still did not know who had been shot.

“He was successful in society”

Alireza Shojaei, 19, came to Sweden single during the winter of 2013. He is from Afghanistan but the family lives in Iran.

Jawad Mohammedi was Alireza’s adoptive father from 2015 to 2018, when Alireza came of age.

– He was such a nice and clean guy. When he came to us he did not feel so good, no one had wanted to receive him. He jumped a lot. I struggled and struggled to get him to his feet. And then he was successful in society. He had learned Swedish, did well in school and obtained a driver’s license, says Jawad Mohammedi, who was interviewed for the first time in Norrbottens-Kuriren.

Come alone as a loner

Jawad Mohammedi himself came to Sweden only from Afghanistan, 17 years ago. Jawad and his family have long been family homes and communicate with families for children and youth.

– I myself have come here by dangerous roads, alone, and I experienced this terrible moment. Talking to someone about the situation and society in Sweden is helpful.

Jawad Mohammedi used to cook what Alireza liked, and after a while Alireza felt more secure.

– Before he went to bed and fell asleep, we used to talk for a while, about the good things and about life … that we have a good society in Sweden. That you have a life ahead of you, you have ended up in a beautiful country that has taken care of you and it is up to you if you want to succeed in life. He used to listen very carefully and then he thanked me, says Jawad Mohammedi.

A 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Shot from the car: “Incredible”

A 45-year-old man is being held on probable cause on suspicion of murder. He denies any wrongdoing.

Aftonbladet has previously interviewed a friend of Alireza Shojaei, who told him that Alireza ended up in a fight with the man inside the burger restaurant. Shortly after, the man shot Alireza from his car.

– It is inconceivable. How can a grown man in his 45s kill a 19-year-old who had nothing to do with it? Innocent man. It is unacceptable, completely useless … I don’t know how to say it, says Jawad Mohammedi.

Alireza Shojaei read about the vehicle program in Boden and used to help her friends change tires and repair the car. Should have brought the student this spring. Instead, he was shot and killed before he was 20 years old.

Jawad Mohammedi met with Alireza regularly. Alireza came to dinner a week before the shooting. That was the last time they saw them.

– They hit me very hard. We have struggled from day one, and it was very gratifying for me to see a young man who initially lacked hope in life go so far and develop so much. I was very hopeful, says Jawad Mohammedi.
