Ali Elmezayen is sentenced to 212 years in prison by a California court.
Ali Elmezayen, 45, was sentenced Thursday to 212 years in prison for drowning his two autistic sons, ages 8 and 13. The purpose was to get money from the life insurance policies he had taken out for the children.
It was in April 2015 when he drove the family’s Honda down a pier south of Los Angeles. The two sons and his ex-wife were sitting in the car.
But before Elmezayen crossed the pier, she rolled down her window so she could easily get out of the car.
His ex-wife survived the incident but their two children died.
I bought a boat and a house for the insurance money
According to the judge in the case, John Walter, he began buying life insurance that covers, among other things, sudden death and death in accidents as early as 2013 and Walter claims that the murders were part of a large insurance fraud.
In total, he received $ 260,000, equivalent to almost 2 million crowns, in life insurance. He spent the money on a boat and property in Egypt, according to a court press release.
But on Thursday, the verdict against Ali Elmezayen could fall. He was sentenced to 212 years in prison for the murder of his children and for insurance fraud.
– He is the ultimate deceiver and a clever liar. He is nothing but a greedy and brutal killer, Judge John Walter said in the press release and continues:
– His only regret is that he was caught.
The insurance was valid for twelve days.
In addition to the very long prison sentence, Elmezayen is also sentenced to repay the money he received from insurance companies.
The crime occurred twelve days after the two-year waiting period for insurance expired. The waiting period is a policy that the insurance company uses to prevent you from purchasing insurance just before someone dies.
– Today, Ali Elmezayen was held responsible for his actions, which led to the tragic death of his two children. It’s inconceivable for any parent to endanger the life of their family for their own financial gain, says Ryan L. Korner, who is a special agent in the criminal investigation department of the US Internal Revenue Service.
In October 2019, Elmezayen was convicted, among other things, of money laundering and identity theft, where his ex-wife was the plaintiff. According to the verdict, he also had to abuse his ex-wife for several years and neglect his two autistic children.
