Just over a month ago, Alexei Navalny fell ill suddenly during a flight from Tomsk to Moscow. According to analyzes by Swedish, German and French laboratories, he had been poisoned by the neurotoxin novitjok.
It is not yet clear how exactly the poisoning occurred and now Navalny hopes the clothing will provide answers on how he got the poison into his body.
“Before they allowed me to take me to Germany, they took off all my clothes and sent me completely naked.”, Navalny writes and continues:
“Since novitjok was found on my body, and contact infection is very likely, my clothing is very important evidence.”.
Russia demands proof
Russian police have yet to launch a formal criminal investigation as they want to see more evidence that poisoning has occurred. But they demanded all the medical samples taken at Navalny in Germany.
However, according to Ivan Zhdanov, one of Navalny’s employees, the Russian transport police have summoned several members of Navalny’s staff for questioning. However, he affirms that they will not appear as the police have exceeded the 30-day deadline they apply to initiate a formal police investigation.
“The 30 days were used to hide important evidence,” Navalny said, according to Reuters.
