The elections in Belarus on August 9 are highly questioned and the EU has decided to impose sanctions on the country known as the last dictatorship in Europe. After the elections, there have been strong protests and the EU has also criticized Lukashenko for the regime’s handling of subsequent protests. Just four days ago, more than 200,000 people gathered outside the presidential palace in Minsk and demanded his resignation.
Now President Alexander Lukashenko is responding. The state news agency Belta reports that it may be relevant to block freight routes around the world before the sanctions. He also said that he had ordered half the country’s army to prepare for combat because of what he describes as a threat from NATO, writes TT.
