– The club has an impressive history, but what has attracted the most is Blåvitt’s commitment to the future. It feels exciting to be a part of that, ”says Alexander Farnerud, 36, in a press release.

Farnerud was out of contract after leaving Helsingborg last winter.

– I have trained alone and with local teams in Germany, which I have spent a lot of time in the spring. But it is a completely different thing to train and play together in a team. I miss that community, he says.

Alexander Farnerud is the younger brother of IFK Gothenburg Assistant Assistant Sports Manager Pontus, who says he has not been as involved in the transition process as he usually is.

Jakob Johansson has signed a contract until 2022, after just over four years as a foreign professional.

– I’m looking forward to this. It feels so exciting to come home in today’s blue and white. Although a lot has happened at the club over the years I’ve been abroad, it feels like coming home, he says on the club’s website.

The national team midfielder played for IFK Gothenburg 2007–2014.

After three seasons at Greek AEK Athens and a year and a half at French Rennes, the 29-year-old decided to return to Allsvenskan.

– It has been exciting to follow Jacob during his career abroad and how he has grown to become the player he is today. In our squad building we want several different types of players. At Jakob, we have a former blue and white youth player who is both a cultural bearer and tip player, ”says Kennet Andersson, IFK Göteborg Sports Manager.

Coach Poya Asbaghi they are at least as satisfied.

“He is a versatile midfielder from whom we will benefit enormously immediately. In addition to the fact that he has the right experiences and qualities, Jacob is also a person that we know will fit in with the group socially, ”he says.

Jakob Johanssson made his way into the national team when Janne Andersson took over as league captain. He scored the only goal of the playoff game against Italy and led Sweden to the 2018 World Cup. On the return to San Siro in Milan, the crossband was ripped off and the playoffs were lost.

When Johansson prepares for IFK Gothenburg it is uncertain.
