Åkesson conditions M / KD cooperation – requires written agreement

The SD party leader is visiting the Svalöv municipality where SD took office in spring 2019. Here power rests on solid foundations after the chairman of the municipal board, Teddy Nilsson (SD), demanded that the parties of the coalition sign an agreement on how the municipality should be governed.

– Yes, we put it on paper. That article has not been published and will not be published. Without it, it’s our relationship document, says Teddy Nilsson.

In Svalöv, the Swedish Democrats rule in close cooperation between the moderates and the Christian Democrats with the support of the liberals. And Svalöv’s model with a negotiated document governing the policy is something the party leader will take with him if Sweden’s Democrats are to be included in a budget collaboration after the 2022 elections.

– Yes, of course I do. Now, both the moderates and the Christian Democrats have announced that even if they don’t want to see us as part of a government, at least they are open to budget negotiations with us. And then it is clear that the experience of whether one has been successful at the municipal level is important to me.

So do you need a printed collaboration?

– Yes, I think that’s crucial. At least the basics should be in print. The starting points, that is, the more general lines, we should probably agree and they should be printed.

“Influence in proportion to size”

In a longer report on SVT Agenda, Jimmie Åkesson tells how he thinks about possible future budget cooperation and what is required to free Ulf Kristersson as prime minister of a government. But how much influence the Swedish Democrats would have over such a government depends on the outcome of the elections, he says.

– We have never been closer to real influence than now. But what we can demand is entirely based on the outcome of the elections. I mean if you are going to be part of a collaboration in any way, it is reasonable that you gain influence in proportion to your size.

But does that mean that you get more influence over a government with moderates and Christian Democrats than you get with the KD?

– Yes, in that context it is so, but as I said we still do not have an electoral result.

Did you tell Ebba Busch?

– I think you understand these things. And it is clear that if we achieve such a position that we can get a government to act in the right direction on issues that we think are important, then we should. That is what we are looking for, says party leader Jimmie Åkesson (SD).
