There was no parade of possibilities in the first half at Friends Arena.
The closest to breaking the zero was Eric Kahl who slipped the ball into the penalty area but finished a little too close to Stojan Lukic on Varberg’s goal.
Instead, it was another young man who was behind AIK’s winning goal. Erik Ring, 18, passed Adama Fofana on the right and registered the ball to Henok Goitom in the 58th minute. The AIK forward struck immediately and did not get a clean shot, but the ball still soared over Stojan Lukic and under the crossbar.
The goal was Goitom’s eighth of the season and the fourth in the last five games. He became the hero of the AIK match because the goal was the last of the match.
Joakim Persson after missing the penalty
In extra time, the visiting team called for a penalty when Nabil Bahoui jumped on Gustaf Norlin’s back.
– That definitely could and probably should have been a punishment for Varberg, stated commentator Niklas Jarelind on Dplay.
– A difficult away game against a team that has shown very good form, heavy in fixed situations and is an experienced team. We did well in the first twenty, but then AIK grows. The first half is uneventful and the second half is a war of positions where the AIK has a bit more control over events, says Varberg’s coach Joakim Persson, continuing:
– We tried to pressure after the AIK goal, we did not reach the hot occasions, so it is a clear penalty that they steal from us but we are used to it.
Persson does not want to develop the comment that one is used to being penalized against oneself.
– Absolutely not. I don’t want the judiciary behind me, we’ve tried it once, we don’t want it again, says Persson.
Norlin: “The punishment is clear”
Gustaf Norlin is not happy with the missed penalty either.
– I’m on fire right now, so I have to bite my tongue. It is a clear punishment, I felt it when it happened, and what little I have heard, most agree. Unfortunately, the judge does not make that decision.
Why do you think you do not accept the verdict?
– It’s hard to say. They think it’s a 50/50 duel and I think it’s really incredible. I don’t think the referee is that far away, first I’m on the ball and he (Nabil Bahoui) jumps towards me. He bets on the ball, it’s a shame, but the penalty is clear. It’s the 94th minute at Friends Arena and it might not be easy to fly then.
He agrees with his coach that Varberg is used to not taking penalties from him.
– Unfortunately, it has. It is subconscious that we are little Varberg facing the great dragons. It’s easier to shoot a free kick in their direction than ours. We shouldn’t blame him, because we need to improve other things, but there are still chances to score points.
Astrit Selmani:
– The way the judge talks to us and the way he talks to them is a big difference. I have bought the position, they have begun to understand it now. We receive no punishment. If it had been them, ten out of ten would have been punished.
How is it different?
– The referee knows. But I can’t talk to him, so he will be “calm” as long as they can say completely sick words but nothing happens. But you have to buy the situation, they have the routine and they know what you can do. We get to learn.
It was clear that Selmani was frustrated after the game and the team captain thought the verdicts could decide the bottom line.
– Otherwise, you have to do it like in Italy and then punish the judges. I think so. We are punished and then they are punished. So I understand that it is human to make mistakes but to make mistakes so that we get out, so that Falkenberg comes out is something heavy.
How do you plan to punish them?
– Suspension, you miss the next round. But it is not up to me.
In principle, the contract is secured for AIK.
– It feels like a penny in those situations whether there will be a penalty or not. Jocke seems convinced, I have not seen him but it is a collision, says AIK coach Bartosz Grzelak about the aforementioned situation.
AIK’s victory means that the team now rises to 35 points in the Allsvenskan and has, in principle, secured the contract with the Allsvenskan. For the team to finish in the playoffs, Falkenberg is now required to win all of its last four matches.
Varberg is also well placed to manage the contract at the Allsvenskan and is five points behind Falkenberg in the standings with his 28 points.
