Prime Minister Stefan Löfven calls for a very limited Christmas and New Year celebration.
Professor Agnes Wold thinks the infection is decreasing, but says:
– You cannot celebrate Christmas together at home, old and young from time to time. So there is always the risk of infection.
Agnes Wold, a doctor and professor of clinical bacteriology at the University of Gothenburg, is optimistic for the long term. But he also believes that Christmas this year should be celebrated on a grand scale.
I think it’s spinning
– I hope, like everyone else, that the infection goes down. I hope these new rules take effect and they certainly do. I think it will change. But it doesn’t really help to consider Christmas, he tells Aftonbladet.

Agnes Wold gives tips and advice before the weekend celebration.
Wold excludes the classic Christmas celebration.
– Even if you get the infection before Christmas with various measures, it is possible that we will go down to the level of infection we had during the summer. There is still a risk of older people getting infected.
“Sit in quarantine”
A celebration where everyone sits indoors around the Christmas table along with family members over 70 doesn’t work, says Agnes Wold.
– In that case, the others must be in quarantine for a week, without meeting anyone else, so that they are completely free of contagion.
– But if it’s as good as it looks with a vaccine, I think you can skip this Christmas and celebrate it at Easter. So hopefully Grandma and Grandpa are vaccinated.
Yes, despite all the recommendations, you have to go shopping for Christmas. How to think then?
– Of course it is not necessary. This is not a law of nature, but it seems so. It’s absurd, we don’t need so many things, says Agnes Wold.
– It is probably not worth risking your health and that of others to be forced to buy more things. I think it’s a bit silly.

Kitchen chaos on Black Friday this year.
He may take it a bit well because people still prioritize health, he says.
– What people want most is for everyone to survive and for everyone to be healthy. Then you can probably invest in it.
The government’s Christmas message was presented yesterday by Prime Minister Stefan Löfven at a press conference.
– Christmas is a time when you want to be together, Christmas is a time of closeness. But this year, Christmas can’t be business as usual, he said.
Löfven stated that the infection situation had not improved. Therefore, the ceiling of a maximum of eight people is maintained.
“The new norm”
– Eight people is the new norm. This also applies to Christmas and New Years, he said.
The press conference was also attended by the Minister of Social Affairs, Lena Hallengren (S), the Deputy Prime Minister Isabella Lövin (MP) and the director of the Swedish Public Health Agency, Johan Carlson.
– The new regulations mean that you are obliged to follow them. You should keep your distance, you should stay home if you are sick, Hallengren said.
Johan Carlson urged everyone to avoid unnecessary risks.
– The situation is still serious in our country, we still have an extensive spread of the infection, the risk is great for a further spread of the infection during the weekends, it can end really bad, he said.
Isabella Lövin suggested an alternative celebration.
– Find new solutions, perhaps outdoors with warm clothing. Maybe you can watch the whole family digitally, pick up the phone, and chat. This year’s Christmas gift can be a thoughtful conversation, he said.
Stay in the bubble
It’s best to celebrate Christmas in the bubble you’ve lived in for a long time, emphasized Johan Carlson. But if you are going to meet the grandmother, you should not “jump with the others”:
– It is not reasonable to jump from one family to another as you normally do.
Next week, the new national councils and regulations will replace the local general councils.

Congestion in public transport.
This applies to you throughout December.
► The risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19 increases the more you find yourself. So the basic advice is to limit the number of meetings.
► Socializing should only take place in a small circle, that is, those with whom you live. Or two, three friends for those who live alone.
► New close contacts should be limited.
► You should also avoid joining several different circuits. The less collected the better.
► Limit group travel as much as possible. If you have to travel by public transport, you must choose a mode of transport where you can reserve a place. First of all, you must choose to walk, ride a bike, or bring your own car.
► You also need to make sure you can isolate yourself or get home in an infection-proof manner if you develop symptoms of Covid-19.
► As long as no prohibition has been introduced, visits to special accommodation for the elderly may be made. This must be done safely and in accordance with the accommodation’s visiting routines.
► Keep your distance. Avoid all congestion situations. Gathering outdoors or digitally reduces the risk of spreading infections.
