The Aftonbladet newspaper claims that a Junior Crowns player must have been the target of serious threats after the quarter-final loss to Finland. “We will do everything we can to deal with this,” the competition director of the Swedish Ice Hockey Association, Olof Östblom, confirms to the newspaper.
Finland beat Sweden 3-2 in the JVM quarter-finals after Roni Hirvonen spun the winning goal with 25 seconds remaining.
The defeat was a serious blow to the Swedes and among others, the captain of the national team Joel Rönnmark seemed to have a hard time holding back tears in the subsequent television interview.
– I’m thinking of the boys there, who are very sad. It’s really tough. We face the Finns in the quarter-finals, it sucks, Rönnmark told SVT.
The same channel’s expert, Jonas Andersson, claimed after the defeat that Sweden had slipped behind the major nations.
– Russia, Canada and the USA have higher individual ability than Sweden. I hope we can do that analysis now, said the expert.
Someone or some Swedes do not seem to have been able to control their emotions at all after the defeat. Aftonbladet claims that one of the Swedish players must have been the subject of derogatory comments and direct threats, mainly on Instagram.
The newspaper: “Very serious trampling”
The competition director of the Swedish Ice Hockey Association, Olof Östblom, confirms the information for the magazine. According to him, it is primarily a threat to a player.
– Our security department has already started and is working on it. This is not acceptable, Östblom comments.
According to Aftonbladet, this is a “very serious trampling”.
– As usual when there is this type of threat, it is too cursed. Unacceptable. It doesn’t matter if they are young or old players. We will do what we can to deal with this, continues Östblom, who believes that a police report is relevant if it is a threat.
