Donald Trump had not appeared to the world since election night.

46 hours later, he broke the silence of the White House and continued to question the result.

“If the legal votes count, I win easily,” he said.

Several media companies stopped the broadcast before the speech ended.

The United States and the world are holding their breath as they wait for the vote count in the remaining states. Joe Biden is closing in on the 270 electoral votes needed, while Trump’s staff has tried to stop vote counting in court in several states.

Donald Trump appeared in public at 2:30 a.m. on election night (8:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Swedish time). He then delivered a speech in the White House proclaiming himself the winner, questioning whether the elections went well, and threatening to go to the Supreme Court.

– This is a fraud against the American people. This is a shame for our country. We are preparing to win this election and, frankly, we won, he said.

After that, Trump was silent, but at 12:45 p.m. Friday, a quarter of an hour after the appointed time, he broke the silence in a speech from the White House press room.

He read a manuscript and continued to question the vote count. Now he chose to describe the first votes as “illegal”:

– If you count the legal votes, I win easily. If you count the illegal votes, they can try to steal the election from us, if you count the votes that were late.

Trump called for the voting to be stopped and continued to accuse Democrats of voter fraud.

– They wait and wait and then find them. They find voices suddenly. It is surprising that these postal votes are so one-sided. They keep coming and going everywhere.

Trump showed no evidence

Trump was relatively restrained, delivering the 17-minute speech without outbursts or grand gestures.

– Democrats never thought they could win honestly. Therefore, they used postal ballots. There is enormous corruption and fraud, he said.

Trump claimed, without showing any evidence, that the votes without a postmark and signature have been approved. He said Republican observers were denied access to polling stations:

– We cannot allow that to happen to our country. It’s not about Joe or me.

Trump did not respond to questions from reporters when the speech ended. He concluded by promising “many trials.”

– We believe that we will win the elections easily. It will end up in the Supreme Court, we’ll see.

TV streaming stopped

Immediately after the speech, Vice President Mike Pence tweeted his support:

“I’m behind President @realDonaldTrump. We must count all LEGAL votes.”

CNN and Fox showed the full speech. However, several media companies, including ABC, CBS, MSNBC, and USA Today, chose to cancel the broadcast before Trump ended.

– OK. Now we are here again in the unusual position of not only interrupting the President of the United States, but also correcting the President of the United States. There are no illegal votes that we know of and there is no Trump victory, MSNBC host Brian Williams said on the live stream.

Nine flagged tweets

Since election night, Trump has repeatedly questioned mail-in ballots and vote counting on Twitter.

Out of a total of 21 tweets during the 46 hours of silence, 19 had this topic in different ways. Nine of them received warning flags from Twitter about being deceptive.

Meanwhile, challenger Joe Biden has given two speeches, one on Wednesday night and the other a day later. Both times, he said he was convinced he would win when the vote count was over.

In his last speech Thursday night, he urged patience.

– I ask everyone to remain calm, the process is working and the vote count is being completed. We’ll find out very soon, Biden said from his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware.

Have a speech on wednesday

Biden’s appearance is said to have made Trump want to give his own speech, CNN reports, citing sources at the White House. The possibility was discussed in their squad already on Wednesday, but in the end they decided not to do it because “there was no clear message to convey.”

The image of Trump’s domestic actions after election night is partially divided, according to CNN sources. On the one hand, he himself has taken the initiative in the judicial process and has instructed his advisers to continue filing lawsuits to stop the scrutiny.

At the same time, in various conversations with his staff, he has sounded tired and depressed and questioned whether the strategy will work, say the people who spoke to the president.

On Wednesday, Trump, according to CNN, also made angry calls to several Republican governors, including Florida, Georgia and Arizona.
