After the sharp rise, support for S continues to decline

Social Democrats go from 30.4 percent in the opinion poll of Swedish voters in June to 27.9 percent now. This is demonstrated by the weighting of various measurements that Kantar Sifo performs for Swedish Radio Ekot.

Both the moderates and the Swedish Democrats increase marginally in the compilation, roughly one percentage point each. The moderates get 20.6 percent and the Swedish Democrats 19.8 percent. For other parts, the changes are minor. Therefore, the Liberals and the Green Party are still under the parliamentary barrier.

Support for S increased sharply in the spring

The decline of the Social Democrats comes after a spring in which the party steadily rose in public opinion, when the crown pandemic was the dominant issue. The highest S was 31.4 percent in the spring. The new downward curve was not unexpected, Kantar Sifo’s head of public opinion Toivo Sjörén told radio.

– The first stage (during the pandemic) is that it rises, it becomes a national association around those who are leaders. That is why it was this exceptional increase for Social Democrats that we had never seen before. It’s a fairly small comeback, but much better than before the crown, says Sjörén.
