Crown-mutated mink infection can spread to humans, which may pose a threat to future vaccines.

Therefore, the Danish government, led by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, decided last week that all the country’s minks, more than 14 million animals, should be euthanized.

Now, the killing has partially stopped after it turned out that the government lacked a legal right to make such a decision. Mette Frederiksen has been forced to apologize and several parties are demanding new elections.

But the carnage has not only created political chaos, it has also been a riot on several Danish roads in recent days.

On Sunday morning, a truck dumped dead minks on the E45 motorway. On a stretch of almost 50 kilometers between Haverslev and Randers lay the dead animal.

Tuesday night, it was time again. This time on the west side of Jutland.

– I just passed. From Ølgod to Nordenskog, they are scattered everywhere. It’s in the thousands and it’s getting worse. It’s crazy. It’s grotesque, says a witness.

“Lots of dead minks”

Ekstrabladet has spoken with Linda Marie Toft, who lives in Nordenskov. She was also shocked by all the dead minks.

– Suddenly we noticed that all the cars were going very slowly right near where we live and we went to the road to see what happened. We were surprised to see that there were lots of dead minks on the road, he says.

Danish police confirmed on Twitter late Tuesday that a truck had lost its load of dead mink. But it is not yet clear what happened that caused the minks to spread onto the roads.

Twelve people in Denmark have already been infected with the mutated virus known as “group 5”. Last week’s discovery led to strong measures in Denmark, including seven Jutland municipalities that have been hit by a hard shutdown.

Despite a political battle over whether minks continue to kill animals on mink farms with a confirmed infection and on mink farms that are within a five mile radius of North Jutland, the so-called buffer zone . To date, several million minks have been killed.
