Both in the Stockholm region and nationally, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has increased for several weeks in a row. Maria Rotzén Östlund, an infection control doctor in the Stockholm region, is concerned about development.
She says that discussions are currently underway on possible additional measures with a focus on further understanding exactly where the spread of the infection occurs.
– What we mainly think about is being able to work with infection tracking: turn it on so we can identify what else we could do in certain environments, he says.
However, Maria Rotzén Östlund does not want to reveal any details.
– No, that’s what we are discussing at the moment, so I don’t think we can develop it further.
Stockholm proposal on family quarantine
On September 22, the director of the Stockholm Region hospital, Björn Eriksson, revealed in SVT’s Aktuellt that talks were underway with the Swedish Public Health Agency to introduce family quarantine in Stockholm.
The line from the Public Health Agency has always been that you can go to work if you have an infected partner, as long as you don’t have symptoms yourself.
In an interview with Dagens Nyheter the day after Björn Eriksson’s proposal on family quarantine, state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell said he thought the question was raised too early.
“Actually, we did not intend to raise that issue until we had a completely clear concept,” he told the newspaper.
However, on October 1, the Swedish Public Health Agency released new recommendations that, in short, mean that adults living with someone infected with COVID-19 should stay home for a week.
– We have learned a lot about this disease since last spring. We were probably not prepared then to make this effort. We believe it is time to make this effort now, says Maria Rotzén Östlund.
