In an interview with Swedish radio, Ekot, the Preem oil company announced that they chose to invest several billion to be able to take care of rapeseed oil, tall oil and old oil for frying at Preemraff in Lysekil.

CEO Magnus Hallberg announced that Preem plans to rebuild the refinery after they chose to withdraw their $ 15 billion investment that would increase carbon dioxide emissions by one million tons of carbon dioxide per year. Construction will begin in the summer.

– I see this investment very positively. This is a step in the direction in which we want to go within the company, that is, increasing the proportion of renewable production in our refineries, CEO Magnus Heimburg tells Ekot Sveriges Radio.

According to Preem, the new plant will not contribute to additional carbon dioxide emissions.

This has happened:

In 2016, Oljebolaget Preem is applying to expand its oil refinery in Lysekil. An application that is later approved by the Land and Environment Court.

The decision to expand the oil refinery has been hotly debated and has created an important political debate about fossil emissions and the environment.

After several rounds, Preem announced on September 28 of this year that they are withdrawing their request to expand the oil refinery. Greta Thunberg came out and praised the message and called it a “great victory for the climate.”
