Now come the political reactions to Ekot’s revelation about the Ukrainian employment agency Pelekh, which uses the Swedish asylum system to urge its clients to seek asylum in Sweden because they have the right to work during the asylum process itself.
– This is a completely unreasonable hoax and exploitation of the system that must be stopped. First of all, the asylum application of people who come from safe countries should be rejected quickly. Second, a no should be a no. Then you shouldn’t be able to suddenly become a working immigrant, but if you’ve received a no, then you should leave the country, says the leader of the moderate party, Ulf Kristersson.
Today, Ekot spoke about the Ukrainian employment agency Pelekh, which sells business trips to Sweden, but in Sweden transports its clients to the Swedish Immigration Board and urges them to apply for asylum.
In Sweden, you often have the right to work during the asylum process and, if your asylum application is rejected, you can change your route and apply for a work permit.
The moderates, the Christian Democrats and the Swedish Democrats tell Ekot that it is the change of course that leads to abuse of the asylum system and that it must be eliminated. But the Liberals, the Center Party, the Green Party and the Left Party want to keep the change of course and together with the Social Democrats form a majority in the Riksdag.
Justice Minister Morgan Johansson believes that the legislation the government has, which means that certain countries are considered safe and therefore must appear on a list of safe countries, solves the problem.
– It means then that the Swedish Migration Agency can establish a series of countries where there is no general persecution on this list. This means that you are not allowed to stay in Sweden during the appeal process, but then you can leave Sweden in a few weeks and you also do not get a residence permit to work. Here’s how to put Ukriana on such a list and fix this problem, says Morgan Johansson.
According to him, the new legislation with safe countries may come into force in May next year.
Ekot sought the address of the Ukrainian employment agency Pelekh, but they did not want to be interviewed.
