Frankrikes President Emmanuel Macron.
Several people were injured in an explosion during a ceremony at a non-Muslim cemetery in the Saudi city of Jeddah.
“The annual ceremony commemorating the end of the First World War at the non-Muslim cemetery in Jeddah, with the presence of several consulates, including that of France, was the objective,” the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
According to the text, a homemade explosive device was used in the explosion and several people were injured.
“France strongly condemns this cowardly and unacceptable attack,” the statement continued.
Relations between France and several Muslim countries have deteriorated in recent times since President Emmanuel Macron attacked violent Islamism in defense of freedom of expression after the murder of a French teacher who showed his students cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad during a lesson.
Following the recent bloody acts in Paris, Nice and Vienna, France has stepped up its border protection. In connection with a web meeting on Tuesday on the fight against terrorism, both France and the EU also soon promised new proposals in the fight against extremism.
