The jihadist movement Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which has ties to the al-Qaeda terror network and controls Idlib, has held Nour al-Shilo in custody for about two months. Al-Shilo is a widow and mother of three young children.

The young woman’s family He did not want the news of the arrest to be spread from the beginning to avoid “negative consequences” for the daughter. And the family has not received any information about where he is or how he is feeling.

Information is now spreading that HTS intends to execute Nour al-Shilo.

– They tend to present accusations that have no basis in reality. Like being a traitor, spreading liberal ideas or insulting the mujahideen, says Ahmad Aljalal, who used to criticize HTS and the regime in his hometown of Kafranbel in Idlib.

Aljalal, who now lives in the city of Izzaz in Aleppo province, had to flee the HTS-controlled areas after HTS murdered his colleague Raed Fares. This was one of the most famous names in the moderate Syrian opposition.

– It is scary to leak news that Nour al-Shilo may be executed, says Aljalal, who believes that HTS sometimes tries to scare people by spreading such information.

Activists in Idlib launched a media campaign this week to pressure HTS.

HTS admitted on Wednesday that Nour al-Shilo is in custody, because she is involved in “various crimes and ethical issues”, the latter being about her threatening to send photos of women to several men. Images that HTS found on its camera, according to HTS news site Ebba.

We activists in Idlib have not yet been able to get a lawyer to defend Nour. We hope that she will be released soon, Hasan Moukhtar, a journalist from Idlib, tells DN.
