Accused burglar key witness in unsolved murder as a teenager

The May 2008 murder of Kurt Nilsson has never been fully solved. He was found dead in his kitchen with his hands and feet tied behind his back. He had been subjected to extensive beatings by hitting or kicking.

A 31-year-old man was sentenced in 2010 to 10 years in prison, but another defendant was acquitted. After the 31-year-old was released from prison and served his sentence, in 2018 he decided to contact the police.

He then pointed to the man who had previously been acquitted of complicity in the murder. This spring, the Supreme Court ruled against that man. That case has not yet been decided in the Court of Appeal. But the 31-year-old also pointed to two other men who in June were charged with murder or aiding and abetting the murder of Kurt Nilsson.

They are all related to each other.

Adolescent key witness

The district court acquitted the two men, but the court’s prosecutor, Lena Körner, appealed the verdict.

A fourth relative of those implicated has a key role in the investigation of the murder of Kurt Nilsson. He was the first to tell who was involved in the murder after Kurt Nilsson was found dead. He was 14 years old at the time and he told it, among other things, to a contact person but also to his colleagues. The information he provided was not widely known.

Those he spoke to perceived it as if the 14-year-old had been in the kitchen when Kurt Nilsson was beaten. The Court of Appeal writes in its 2010 ruling that the then 14-year-old knew about Knut Nilsson’s murder before he was found dead.

Lena Körner called him as a witness at Lund’s trial. Unlike his 31-year-old relative who was sentenced ten years ago and later suffered remorse, he did not want to testify against his relatives.

– They called him but he didn’t come, says Lena Körner.

Suspect of theft and threats

In his role as family member, the now 26-year-old is under no obligation to testify, and if he had chosen to do so, he would not have had to testify.

Now he himself is a criminal suspect. He was arrested at the end of September after being searched since April 7 of this year.

The 26-year-old is suspected in nine robberies, several cases of abuse in court and attempted extortion.

In June, he is suspected of attacking a man in his 35s who was sitting on a bench in Jesusparken by Möllevången in Malmö. The man told police how the 26-year-old and another man approached him and told him they would follow him.

– A guy threatened me and said that they would kill me if I didn’t follow them. They were very aggressive, so I got scared and followed them, says the man in questioning.

Then he was forced to give up his two bank cards and PIN. The men exceeded SEK 1,000.

Shocked and scared

Subsequently, he was seriously shocked and frightened. Similarly, a 22-year-old man was surprised at Södra Förstadsgatan. The 22-year-old was forced to withdraw SEK 3,800 from an ATM. Another man has also experienced that he was threatened with death.

The 26-year-old denies the theft except in one case in which he claims to have had the right to demand payment from a man who rented a second-hand apartment.

The tenant he was looking for went to the police immediately afterwards. The man says during interrogation that he thought the 26-year-old would kill him if he did not give him money.
