It was on Sunday that border police stopped two vehicles in Lernacken for an in-depth inspection. In one car there were 39 Romanian dogs, in the other there were 20 Bosnian dogs.
“When the cargo space of the vehicles is opened, we find such a terrible stench, it is impossible to describe and what we found !!!! Jo 59! Pieces of dogs of different breeds and sizes “imported” from different countries in Europe. ”A border policeman writes in a highly publicized post on police social media.
The border police describe that the “storage space of the dogs was under all the criticism, feces, urine, vomit everywhere”.
Scanian Organization
One of the vehicles was still allowed to enter the country because the necessary documentation was available. The vehicle with 20 dogs had to turn around and return to Copenhagen because the documentation was not approved. The 20 dogs are stray dogs that would be given to different families in Sweden.
It is a Scanian organization that helps to adopt stray dogs. SVT has spoken with a woman who adopted one of the dogs who was not allowed into the country. She says she paid SEK 5,500 for the dog, money that was donated to the organization in advance.
The woman and several other potential dog owners had traveled to Jönköping to greet the dogs when they arrived.
– We received a message last Friday that the dogs have started their journey. They would arrive in Jönköping this Saturday. But apparently there was a problem with the weather so they were delayed. On Sunday we were told that they were not allowed to enter. Now they will be in a shelter in Denmark, says the woman.
He did not rest for two days
The driver who was driving the transport admitted to border police that the dogs had not rested for two days. According to the border police, the dogs were in poor condition and thirsty.
Mattias Gårdlund, an animal welfare inspector for the county administrative board, has contacted police about Sunday’s incident.
– This is not the first time that this has occurred in relation to the transport of dogs in adoption activities. We see that there are major shortcomings. The cages are too small, the dogs do not rest and are in poor condition, says Mattias Gårdlund.
SVT has sought representatives for the organization behind the dog transport.
