On Monday at 14, the door of 90 years rang. Outside the apartment was a young woman, wearing a face mask and gloves, and a lunch box full of products.
The 90-year-old woman was not expecting any food delivery and was surprised by the visit. Still, the 90-year-old woman let the young woman in, about whom Sydsvenskan was the first to write.
“From what we understand, she was very controversial,” says Nils Norling, informant and press officer for the Malmö Police.
“Do you want to help”
The young woman closed the door behind her and went to the kitchen with the owner. While the impostor was unpacking the products, the 90-year-old man sat down.
– When they are in the kitchen, she says she has a relative who died of a crown and since then she wants to do everything possible to help and contribute during the current crisis, says Nils Norling.
During the call, the apartment door opened and quickly closed again. Suddenly, the young woman interrupted the conversation, told her that she must have gone to the wrong home, threw away the groceries and left.
It was then that the older woman became suspicious. She discovered shortly after the jewelry and cash disappeared from the apartment.
“Never let in”
The crime is classified as serious theft. So far, the police only have one vague signal element on one of the perpetrators, but at least one other person is suspected to be involved.
– The young woman has been described as 150 to 155 centimeters long with ponytail hair. Partly masked by the idea of a mouth guard, says Nils Norling.
This is the first time that Nils Norling has learned that deceivers cheat on the elderly. Police are now warning that there may be more old crimes with similar approaches.
– It is always important that we talk to our elderly about aging crimes, especially about this specific approach, that scammers use the pandemic to be admitted to the elderly. An important tip for the elderly is to never let anyone you don’t know always close the door on them, says Nils Norling.
Some residents call it “a myth”.
