A year has passed since Wilma Andersson de Uddevalla disappeared.
On November 14, 2019, Linda Andersson, Wilma’s mother, had what would be the last phone call with her daughter:
Wilma talked about everything possible, as she used to do. We ended up talking about the dental visit I was going to, says Linda Andersson.
But Wilma never showed up to the dentist the next day.
Then no one, except her killer, knew that she was no longer alive.
Tishko Ahmed, 23, murdered Wilma
Her eyes quickly fell on her boyfriend Tishko Ahmed, 23. The family’s suspicions against him grew even stronger when he did not get involved in the search for Wilma and when he behaved strangely around the family.
– When we were then in the apartment (Tishko Ahmed’s apartment) there were many things that were not true. Tishko’s behavior was very strange and he felt nervous. When we were in the apartment for the last time on Sunday, it was more important for him to meet his friend who was coming there. The feeling was that he didn’t want us to be there then, says Linda.
A few weeks after November 14, and after extensive search efforts that involved the entire country, the police made a grisly discovery in the boyfriend’s apartment.
In Tisko Ahmed’s closet, the police found Wilma’s head wrapped in aluminum foil in a suitcase.
The Court of Appeal changed the sentence
After a lengthy investigation, where traces of Wilma’s blood were found in Tishko Ahmed’s apartment, he was sentenced in district court to life in prison for Wilma’s murder.
He appealed the verdict to the Court of Appeal, which in turn overturned the district court’s verdict and chose to set the sentence at 18 years.
– Wilma’s life was 17 years. We have a lifetime missing our daughter. The murderer will have his sentence reduced to 18 years, probably after eleven years. We will never get our beloved Wilma back, says Linda Andersson.
Wilma’s mother: “Evil and cowardly”
During the days of the trial, both in the district court and in the court of appeal, Wilma’s mother sat face to face with her daughter’s killer.
– The feeling of seeing him was terrible. That he sits, lies and does not tolerate what he has done is terribly cruel and cowardly. It hurt so much to sit there those days and listen to what he did to our Wilma, she says.
Wilma Andersson’s body has yet to be found and Tishko Ahmed, who consistently denied killing Wilma, has also not said where the body is.
The week before the Court of Appeal hearings, in late August, the Wilma family were buried.
– The funeral was quiet and very nice. Wilma has a good place we can go, says Linda.
Wilma has yet to be found and you’ve continued looking for her. Where do you find the power?
– I will never give up hope of finding all of our Wilma. We have good support from family, friends and voluntary organizations, among others.
“The nightmare just continues”
On Thursday, Tishko Ahmed appealed the ruling of the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court, claiming that they will try his case. In a handwritten letter he writes:
“Please give me a chance and I will prove my innocence. “
– Feels like you’re back in November 2019. The nightmare just continues and we still haven’t been able to bury all of our Wilma. It’s terribly empty without Wilma. It’s hard to understand that he won’t be back, says Wilma’s mother.
What was Wilma like as a person?
– Wilma means a lot to all members of the family. Siblings, nephews, relatives, and close friends – we all miss our Wilma. For me, Wilma was a loving, caring, kind, fun and creative girl with a big heart. Wilma means a lot to me, everything around me reminds me of Wilma. She is in my heart and no one can take her away.
Keep looking for Wilma
Linda Andersson is grateful for all the help the family has received and for the organizations and individuals who have helped find it.
– A year has passed since Wilma was murdered and not a day goes by without me thinking about her. From the family, I would like to thank everyone who helps us. Thanks to all who come to the various search efforts that are underway.
On the anniversary of the murder, a new search for Wilma takes place. The search is carried out in conjunction with, among others, the voluntary organizations Swedish Rescue Dogs, Swedish Rescue Drones and Missing Sweden.
– As seen now, we can search for areas on land and with the help of divers also areas in the water. Which is very good. This is an important job for us to exclude areas to help the family more, says Daniel Brodin, CEO of IRO Rescue.
