Surveillance footage shows the taxi driver pointing at a man and driving five people.

Then back off and try to run the man over again.

– I just wanted to leave, but it didn’t work, says the taxi driver who is now accused of attempted murder.

Just before midnight on July 24 this year, an ambulance and police were alerted to a traffic accident in the center of Borlänge.

A taxi driver had run over several people and was stopped by witnesses who pulled him out of the car.

According to the preliminary investigation, the 27-year-old taxi driver must have entered the pedestrian street, with the aim of killing a 35-year-old man he knows and with whom he had a conflict before. Five people were hit and the man who was the target ended up under the car and was dragged several meters. After that, the taxi driver has to repeatedly drive back and forth on the pedestrian street and try to drive towards the man again.

“I was just gassing”

The taxi driver claims during questioning that he was attacked and threatened with death by the man who was armed with a knife and allegedly beat him. Then the taxi driver wanted to escape by driving towards the pedestrian street.

– It was an emergency situation. I was just gassing. He did not know where it would end, he says in questioning.

He believes the man later threw himself in front of the car. Why he repeatedly drove from one place to another is difficult for him to explain. “It was impossible to get out of there,” he says.

– I suspected he was driving over people. I didn’t want more people to be affected, so I stayed there, he says.

Messy at the scene after the incident.

The 30-year-old previously reported the taxi driver to the police for a sexual offense against a relative. He admits that he confronted the taxi driver and that they were “irritated.”

– Then he pushed me so that I fell to the ground and kept driving until I finished under the car. She tried to run me over with the tires but I ended up between them. The car is big, so I ended up between the wheels, but a plaque under the engine scraped my head, he says in questioning.

Stuck on surveillance footage

The entire incident was filmed by a surveillance camera. District Attorney Eva-Lena Jansson believes the state of the evidence is good.

– The real course of events and what has happened is clear since there are also several witnesses and many involved in the incident. The bigger question is why this happened and what the suspect’s intention was, he says.

The 27-year-old denies the assassination attempt and admits that he drove against people, but believes it was unintentional. He is also charged with vandalism and four counts of aggravated battery. Prosecutors are demanding that the crime be assessed as serious because the act was life-threatening and that the suspect displayed special cruelty and rudeness.

The 30-year-old is also charged with illegal threats and assault, as he is suspected of threatening and hitting the taxi driver. He admits the course of events, but denies the crime.
