NEW YORK. One in three police officers is charged after the case in which 26-year-old Breonna Taylor was killed in a shooting.

But not because of the fatal shooting, but because of causing danger to the neighbors.

The governor called the National Guard to Louisville and last night a police officer was shot during a chaos of protest.

Authorities in Louisville, Kentucky, have been preparing for violent protests in the city following the jury’s decision on Wednesday, in which none of the three police officers were charged in the fatal shooting on March 13 of this year when Breonna Taylor, 26, died in her apartment during a disastrous drug trafficking accident.

Police shot in protests

The governor has called in the National Guard and a large number of policemen have circled the city. Before curfew at 9 p.m. local time (3 a.m. Swedish time) the streets were filled with protesters. And as night fell, the anger at the protests and clashes with the police grew stronger.

According to CNN, shots have been heard at various locations in Louisville. Masked protesters threw objects and lit bonfires. According to local media, a police officer was shot overnight in downtown Louisville, near the area where the demonstrations took place.

Police are said to have been shot when police on the road encountered a crowd from the area. Louisville police have confirmed the shooting, but there are no details about it.

Shot in a police raid

Breonna Taylor was sleeping with her boyfriend Kenneth Walker at their Louisville, Kentucky apartment when police attacked in the middle of the night. It was a planned drug craze that ended in fatal shots.

Police were met with gunfire when they closed the door. They returned fire and Breonna Taylor was shot eight times. She died on the spot.

Police are investigating the woman’s ex-boyfriend, suspected of selling drugs, but the man was not at Taylor’s apartment at the time. No drugs were found in his home either.

Police tend to a man during protests on Wednesday, following news that one of the three policemen is being prosecuted.

Kenneth Walker, who was sleeping in the apartment, was armed with a pistol and claimed that he thought it was a robbery. He fired a shot at the front door, which according to the police authority hit one of the policemen in the leg.

Protesters, politicians and celebrities have demanded justice for Breonna Taylor in recent months, as in other high-profile cases in which black Americans were killed by police.

Protests after the news that one of the three policemen is being processed.

On Wednesday, a grand jury announced that police officer Brett Hankison, who is said to have fired the fatal shots, is accused of having irresponsibly fired his gun. He is suspected of causing danger to others because three people in the neighboring apartment were about to be hit by gunfire. Hankinson has previously been fired from the agency.

Anger for the message

But there were no murder charges that many protesters and the family expected.

“NOTHING about the Breonna Taylor murder. It’s outrageous and offensive!” Tweeted Ben Crump, attorney for Taylor’s family.

According to Kenneth Walker’s agent, the police never said who they were when they entered the apartment, which is said to have increased the likelihood that he actually thought they were attacked by burglars.

None of the police body cameras were turned on to capture the process, as in other high-profile cases in the past six months, such as those of George Floyd and Jacob Blake. Therefore, the accusation has been based mainly on interviews with witnesses.

Trump didn’t ask the question

The other two police officers involved in the case had the right to defend themselves when they responded to the fire, State Attorney Daniel Cameron said during a news conference Wednesday. He also announces that they will now investigate whether the state police should change the way they conduct house searches. Among the permitted routines has been the procedure of entering without prior notice.

At a press conference Wednesday night, President Trump was asked about the Taylor case. He responded by praising State Attorney Daniel Cameron and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear for their decision to summon the National Guard ahead of the expected protests.

“This will work,” Trump said.

He left the newsroom shortly after, ignoring a question about whether he had anything to say to those outraged by the Taylor case.

Also in New York, protesters prepared to protest overnight.
