Just over eight months after the incident, the district court has expressed its opinion.
The former employee of the Swedish Ice Hockey Association is convicted of sexual harassment. The penalty will be a fine of 80 days. It must also pay damages to the vulnerable woman.
Was in connection with the national team tournament in Stockholm in February, as the incident that led to the prosecution occurred.
The applicant, an employee of the Swedish Ice Hockey Association, was standing in the hallway talking on the phone when the man arrived and hugged her.
According to the plaintiffs, the defendant grabbed her with his arms, encircled her with his left leg and “stung” her for a few seconds before she let go.
The man, who has always denied having committed any crime, described the situation in police questioning as a friendly hug and said that he never thought of violating the plaintiff’s sexual integrity.
The prosecutor Johnny Järlefelt, however, chose to press charges against the man for sexual harassment and last Wednesday the parties met at the Södertörn District Court.
The trial was held behind closed doors. During the negotiations, which lasted for almost five hours, two witnesses were heard.
Prosecutor Järlefelt demanded a sentence and a fine of 100 days.
After negotiations, the plaintiff’s attorney, Kerstin Koorti, said:
– For my client, this has been a terrible moment, having his life and his family hung up. It is not proportional to something like this. I’m upset.
Koorti also said that he did not believe that the supporting evidence presented by prosecutor Järlefelt had the dignity of leading to a conviction.
– The available supporting evidence is not strong enough.
However, the district court had a different opinion.
