A car slipped over a bridge in northern Norway and fell into a river from a height of ten meters.

The two people inside the vehicle were able to be rescued from the water, largely thanks to a successful landing.

– Our task leader says it was a fluke that the car hit a large rock that it was standing on. When they were in the boat, they put all the oars in the water next to the car without being able to reach the bottom, Lars Meland of the Norwegian police tells NTB.

The accident took place in the municipality of Bardu, a few kilometers west of Treriksröset. Police note that it was very slippery on the road.

The victims of the accident were a 70-year-old couple. They had contact with the police during the intense rescue operation, which lasted about an hour and involved divers who arrived by helicopter. The car was partially filled with water.

The couple were airlifted to the hospital in Tromsø, and it was later revealed that the woman had survived completely unscathed and her husband’s condition is described as stable.
