– Boliden appears to have been seen for about ten seconds before it exploded, says Eric Stempel’s researcher in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University.
The bright meteor or boliden as it is also called, was seen all the way to Trondheim and into Denmark and from Malmö along the west coast, where several eyewitnesses speak of the strong light that was followed by an explosion.
– I heard two thumps every second and even the cat reacted. The whole house shook, as if someone had dropped a large stone on the ground, says Bengtåke Carlson, who lives in Hoga in Tjörn.
It is still too early to tell how big the space stone was or if parts of it could have survived to the ground without burning.
In norway trapped Norsk Meteornettverk boliden with two cameras, one in Kristiansand and one in Trondheim:
– A lot of people saw it here in Norway too, but it seems to have moved more in Sweden, says Steinar Midtskogen, camera director and web editor for Norwegian Meteor Network, whose cameras took the films above.
According to Midtskogen, the space rock appears to have crashed into the water around Lysekil.
Gothenburg Police received several calls from people who have seen and heard the car:
– A man from Stora Höga, south of Stenungsund, heard two loud knocks and several spoke of bright lights, says Ann-Christin Löfstrand in the Gothenburg police.
On November 7, a similar incident occurred in West Uppland. This time, the bright meteor was seen further west.
A large number of people have searched for parts of it, but have yet to find any.
