Bo Berglund believes that the various sports federations have received little help on how the business in general and the business of competition in particular should be able to function during the crown crisis with its restrictions.
He believes the reason is that sports are not involved in making decisions. Therefore, for fear of making mistakes, many unions have reduced business too much.
– I think you should bring experience that can be used when the Public Health Authority (FHM) makes decisions regarding sports. There should be someone who can really do sports and can say “within that sport you can do that and that” and give advice, says Bo Berglund.
– They (FHM) have had no one who knows how the sport works. It had been and will need to be taken by that person if this continues.
– The National Sports Federation has an old person of authority, Björn Eriksson (the president, who among other things was the head of the national police), who grew up not to question the authorities. Man (RF) has not required competence in these decision-making bodies.
Bo Berglund doesn’t see the end on the impact of the crown crisis on sports. On the contrary.
– This will be bigger. So far, it has focused on Stockholm, but this is spreading across the country. Sports must think. There must be competent personnel in the Public Health Authority who can play sports. Who can discuss RF problems? I think Björn Eriksson in this situation is a bit of a wrong person to have government contacts because he belongs largely to the government world, says Bo Berglund.
The sports movement consists of many different sports and therefore ends in a difficult situation due to the restrictions of the crown crisis.
– Nobody wants to make a mistake, but sports and federations need support. It’s so special with close contact a few seconds every now and then, and it’s very different in different sports, says Bo Berglund.
– Sports are different essential activities that require knowing sports to know how to implement these aspects.
The risk of being wrong. According to Bo Berglund, very little is currently being done in Swedish sports.
– I feel that there is silence on the innovation front when it comes to competitions. You can do things even with this set of rules, but you must do it differently.
Berglund thinks, above all, that it is the competition activities at the youth level that should be kept up to date.
– For example, there should be more tempo runs (solo start) for young people in cardio sports. I think I could work more to find solutions in different sports to stimulate young people and youth. Otherwise, people lose lust and spark. Especially at junior and youth ages, it is very important to be challenged and tested. That is what drives me on this topic.
Bo Berglund has been a medical advisor to the Canoe Federation during the crisis and they think they are working properly.
– The canoe association has done well. They have a telephone meeting almost every morning with the President, the Secretary General and some others to try to carry out a certain activity.
What help would a union like, for example, canoeing from RF and from FHM?
– This is the case with clearer directives. Now they are so vast that not even a sport as good as soccer ended well. It is important to get support in your decisions.
– I think you should see the possibilities. Football tested the limits anyway. Those training games may not have been as good, but they showed they were cut anyway. Many other sports have just closed.
