All international tennis at the elite level is canceled until July 12. The next day, the men’s tournament will begin in Båstad, according to plans. But the probability of it being so is very small, according to the organizers.
– The chances are extremely small, if they exist, competition director Christer Hult tells SVT Sport.
The Corona pandemic is more likely to stop Båstadtennis. A decision will be made on May 15 about the summer tournaments on the WTA and ATP tours.
Even if the competition gets the green light, it may be impossible to bring players to Skåne, says Hult.
– We also comply with the requirements and restrictions of the Public Health Authority, so just because the ATP and WTA tours give the green light, it is not sure that it is possible anyway.
Wimbledon has already been suspended, the French championships have been postponed this fall and the US Open is expected to announce within a few weeks whether the tournament can be decided as planned in late August-September.
