The 7-year-old red panda Arjun has disappeared from Kolmården without a trace.
Now the zoo is asking for the public’s help.
– We think it is still here, but since the plant is 150 hectares, we need help, says Rickard Sjödén, Head of Information.
It was last Wednesday that 7-year-old Arjun moved to Kolmården from a zoo in the Netherlands.
Arjun, which belongs to the red panda species, was supposed to be part of a so-called conservation program for threatened species, was paired with the two-year-old female panda Ottilia.
Unfortunately, the two traveling pigeons never met.

Is not found
– Since the species is in serious danger, we try to create a backup by regularly checking for new cubs. But now they couldn’t even show up, says Rickard Sjödén, information manager at the Kolmården Zoo.
On Monday night, Arjun came out of the pendant and disappeared without a trace.
Zoo officials have since tried to figure out how he was able to escape, but have been unable to find any damage or impact to the fence.
– We think you have overcome it in some way. We have searched with drones and thermal cameras, but so far we have not found it, says Rickard Sjödén.
Ask for help
Kolmården is now asking for help from the public.
“We think it is still here, but since we are the largest zoo in the Nordic region and the plant is huge with its 150 hectares, we need the public’s help for sightings in the immediate area,” says Rickard Sjödén.
If you see the panda, keep it under surveillance and contact the zoo.
The red panda is slightly larger than a cat and is harmless to humans.
Easy prey to bug
For most of his time, he spends on trees and lives on leaves, insects, and small birds, allowing him to spend time without caring for animals.
– As long as you’re in a tree, it’s safe. The greatest danger is on the ground when a fox or badger can carry it. So we work to find it as soon as possible.
– I think the opportunity is good. If we can see it.
