Larger stores may soon reopen the green light in Germany, which, like most of Europe, has more or less recovered since the coronavirus outbreak.

In the past, smaller stores have been allowed to resume operations. After Wednesday’s teleconference with Chancellor Angela Merkel and the federal government’s heads of state, the restrictions may be lifted for even larger deals, according to two sources with transparency in preparation. The relief will likely take effect on May 11.

The German soccer league Bundesliga is also expected to prepare, possibly on May 15, according to sources.

Germany has been more successful than other major European countries in slowing down the spread of the infection and, despite its larger population, has significantly fewer deaths than, for example, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Spain.
